Pre-Conference Logistics


  • ENTRY/EXIT REQUIREMENTS: A passport, visa and current yellow fever vaccination are required for entry into the country. Visas valid for seven days are available at land borders and for twenty-one days at the airport (These visas cost approximately 15,000 CFAs. Traveler's report that it's very helpful to have CFA's with you to pay this cost; you also need to bring 2 passport photos with you for this visa).
    U.S. travelers should obtain longer-validity visas as well as the latest information and details from the Embassy of Burkina Faso, 2340 Massachusetts Avenue, NW, Washington, D.C. 20008, telephone (202) 332-5577. The cost is $75 USD, plus two passport photos and return postage. Overseas inquiries should be made at the nearest Burkina Faso embassy or consulate.

  • Vaccinations: All travelers must have certified proof of Yellow Fever vaccination in order to enter Burkina Faso. The following immunizations are also recommended: Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, Typhoid, Polio, Meningococcal vaccine. UCAR employees can contact Passport Health for free vaccination services. Lodging Information:
Attendees must make their own hotel reservations. There are several hotel options of varying quality. Buses will pick up conference attendees and transport to CILSS.

  • Sofitel Ouaga 2000: (closest to conference center)
    Approximately:  $131-184 USD/night; five star hotel (you can book a room through Sofitel's website, or go to or for cheaper rates)
  • Splendid Hotel:
    Approximately:  $115 USD/night; middle class hotel three star
  • Soritel Hotel:
    Approximately:  $60 USD/night; middle class hotel, three star
  • Hotel Ran Somketa:
    Approximately:  $75 USD/night; middle class hotel three star
